motting vs copper staining?

Hello,

I am new pool owner in Las Vegas NV. How can i tell the difference between pool plaster mottling and copper staining? Does new plaster look like this when it is being built? We started getting stains within a month and the pool construction company is saying it is copper staining but we think it is mottling. Any ideas??? Thanks

Are you adding products that contain copper?
I would suggest putting a handful of vitamin C tablets in a thin sock, crush them a bit, and set it on the stain for a few minutes. Let us know what happens.

Hello, Thank you for the advice. I will try and report back. We are using the acid from home depot and tablets from costco. they are clorox pool extra blue chlorinating tablets.

Those contain copper. You need to discontinue the use of that product.

You likely have copper staining. The Vitamin C may turn the stain darker.

should i still try the vitamin c test then? Is there a brand that does not have copper? Where could i buy them?

You can use the Vitamin C test. It will not harm anything. Our water also has some iron in it but typically does not stain that quickly.
