more pump run time?

Got my new salt cell installed after issues with my other one..

Anyhow, today I measured my FC and got 3.5 at 8am
measured again at 12pm and got 4.0
measured again at 7pm (same day) and got 3.5

Salt cell was at 100% out put, which gives me .93lbs of chlorine per 24hr period.

Is it normal to lose .5 ppm of chlorine in a 7 hour period even though the cell is at 100% ?

Pump is set to run 10 hours.

FC 3.5
PH 7.5
ALK 85
CYA 85
Salt 3500
 
Running at 100% for 11 hours your TruClear generated 3.1 ppm of chlorine.

Your pool could have consumed 3.1 ppm of CL during a sunny day in Florida starting and ending at 3.5 ppm.

Run your SWG into the evening and let it run for another 7 hours and bank about 2 ppm of CL for the day.

I think Jandy is agressive with the 35K specification.

A typical 40,000 gallon cell generates 1.4 lbs/day of chlorine. Based on that your cell is sized more like for a 26,000 gallon pool. It is undersized for the 2X guideline we use.

Your SWCG can add 6.7 ppm FC to your pool water in a 24 hour period if run at 100%.

Do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to check for overnight loss. Also retest your CYA as 85 is not a possible outcome of the test. It can only read to the whole number. If you wish to use your current test, your CYA is 90. Your FC is below minimum based on FC/CYA Levels
 
Today it was a high of 87. It was mostly sunny. Today was the warmest the pool has been this year LOL. So 2 adults and 2 kids were in it for about 3 hours id say.
I turned off my cell at 8pm. I am running a OCLT tonight to make sure I dont have anything growing even though everything is crystal clear.
Ill check the FC tom morning around 7-8.

10-4 on running cell at night time to store FC for use during the day. That makes sense

So based on your #'s, my pool consumed about 2.5 ppm of chlorine today seeing as how I started at 3.5 added about 2.0 and ended with 3.5?

Your pool used 3.1 ppm of FC.

My math in post #4 was wrong and I edited it.

You started with 3.5 ppm at 8am, your SWG added 3.1 ppm over 11 hours (I had put in 7 hours), and you ended up with 3.5 ppm at 7PM.

So you used 3.1ppm during the day.

holy Crud! So I definitely need longer pump running time to maintain around 5 ppm. Well, since we are on Level 5 lock down Ive got nothing but time to figure all this out!
 
Got ahold of the builder who called the Jandy regional rep who called the local factory repair guy who called me.
I went to his pool shop to pick up the new cell. So far no errors. But he said pump squealing is probably dirt in bearing.. ughhh

Another way to say the same thing as everyone else has already said is... Your cell will generate .28 ppm of FC, per hour, when running at 100% output in your pool. So 10 hours will increase your FC by 2.8.. minus what the sun and bather load consume. Most pools use 2 to 4 ppm of FC each day...

For now I’ll still chalk that as a win. A noisy pump won’t make the pool go green while you use you extended free time to look into that.

Glad it’s at least improved over the other day !

I’m guessing running cell at 50% equates to .14 ppm per hour and so on and so on?
 
Did the OCLT. Last night, 8pm I was at 3.5 FC today 8am I’m at 2.0 FC. Lost 1.5... is this to close to call or do I need to break my cherry and do a slam ?
