More Easytouch issues

This one is an odd one for sure.

@Jimrahbe @ogdento - calling you up since you are good resources and somewhat familiar with my plights. last week i replaced my temp sensor for the pool and after that i have experienced an odd phenomenon i cannot figure out. i think it may be coincidence on timing but wanted to mention it in case.

my pool running randomly switches from pool to spa on my automation. the only thing that does is flip my intake and outtake valves from pool to spa. finally turned off intake valve so it won't react but i left outtake (spillway) on so spa gets circulation. when it happens i can try to reenable pool or disable spa (which flips it to pool) and about half the time it won't flip. when it does, it randomly flips back to spa. it does not line up with any of my schedules and i can sit here and watch it happen. i don't know where to start looking since what controls the spa controls the pool on thers-485 line. i sure hope its not a holdover from my previous chip repairs/storm issues but i fear it could be.

any thoughts?

i was going to post some screen shots but now sure what to show.

Do you have a spa side remote?

Is anything connected to the spa side remote connector?

Sam,

I would disconnect ScreenLogic.. Just unplug the outdoor antenna..

Let it run for a few days with just the outside panel and see if the problem continues or not.

If it were a programming issue, you would think it would not be intermittent. It would do it at the same time every day.

The spa side remote would be the first thing to suspect, but not having one eliminates that..

Sorry, I got nothing..

Maybe the valve button is intermittent, but I doubt it...

Thanks,

Jim R.

hey when it randomly switches from pool to spa, do you A) see it change on the Easytouch display or LEDs (either the aux or valve leds)? Or B) is it just that the valve itself is switching back and forth?
A. if you see it change on the Easytouch, and you've pulled everything besides the pump off the comm port, then it sounds like programming but I tend to agree with Jim that it wouldn't be intermittent. Could be a bad micro-controller or possibly a bad switch on the board
B. if it's just the valves going back and forth then it smells like a bad relay driver or possibly a bad relay

Have you got a raspberry pi and a usb-rs485 adapter? You could hook up node js pool controller and monitor what's going over the rs485 port

hey scott, as is usually the case, I'll think of something while I'm brushing my teeth or doing something mindless... I think you did have a nodejs pool controller set up, so that would be interesting to investigate.

But, what I'm thinking is that if you're actually seeing the Easytouch display change to indicate that it's switched from pool to spa, then something's got to be telling it to do that... either something weird in the programming, a bad button, a messed up controller, or a screenlogic issue (which is why Jim wanted you to pull that).

I can't imagine it being a bad relay driver, relay, comm chip, or any of the chips that control those things because I don't think they could cause the Easytouch to show a different mode on the display.

Thanks, I will look and respond to these questions later today. Not sure I will be able to or not until late. Got a few things going on. @Jimrahbe sure hope you are ok in Bedford. I heard you had the baseball size hail in that area and then you got the high winds. Crazy they were up to 70mph. It all skirted just east of me down here. One of my manager's is in Euless and his windshield was cracked from the hail. Be safe!

Sam,

We did get a lot of hail, but it was mostly pea size with some as big as a quarter. We were watching the hail hit the pool and it was interesting how you could tell the size by the column of water that would shoot up in the air. :)

No damage in my local area anyway..

Thanks for asking,

Jim R.
