Mold under pool cover?

Hey there - first year with a pool. Over the summer noticed some slight mold spots on the walls above the waterline in areas that were shaded from direct sunlight. Never any issues with algae or cloud water or anything, just some moisture mold.

Having covered the pool for winter, the water is still clear and circulates 4 hrs/day, but there's definitely more mold growth because its all in the shade now.

Any thoughts on how to combat this? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

Mold and algae are cousins. You need to regularly brush the areas with chlorinated water.

Is this something thats normal when its covered for winter? Its a pain to get the cover on and off and was hoping to not have to take it off throughout winter to scrub it
No - during the season if you follow the FC/CYA Levels there should be no issue.
It is recommended to bring the pool to slam level for your cya before closing for winter as well as have water temp be regularly in the low 60’s or less before closing to prevent any organic growth over the winter.
