i bought a pool kit from royal pools. I'm not sure i agree with their pool designer with the return and skimmer placements. What do you guys think? I tried asking them about it and got the good ole "We make suggestions based on our experience about what's best for your pool. If you think you know your situation better, do as you please."

1 is their design.

2 seems a bit more logical based on wind.

a note, i ended up with a 5th return kit that i can use if it helps, not sure if there's such thing as "too many". would i maybe want it on the 7' bench to keep water moving over that?

I do plan to pour essentiall a 12-16" concrete wall (will be for raised bed) along the north and west walls which should help cut down the wind too i think.

Yes, there are too many returns. Each return divides up the flow.

If your pump is running at 30 GPM with 3 returns you will get 10 GPM out each return. Make it 4 returns and flow decreases to 7.5 GPM. Make it 5 returns and flow decreases to 6 GPM.

Many returns will give you poor circulation or the need to run your pump at a higher flow rate and use more electricity.

You do not need more than 3 return or 4 max.

I like 1 better.

I'm going to guess that end of the day, this is just a coinflip and there's positives and negatives to both and its not going to really matter. I did post this question a month ago and you chose the other option. at least i know its a complicated question without a clearcut answer

Yup, i thought this looked familiar.

I guess I got out of bed on the other side today.

Do you like working with that company? Sounds like a snarky response.
not even sure how to answer that. they were excellent up until i paid. then it went to Darn. they are still quite helpful with questions but i just dont know if i'd say i like working with them

their shipment showed up and was completely jacked up. bent pieces, missing pieces, extra pieces. Half the bent pieces they told me i had to use, granted they weren't horrible but still, $30k you'd think they'd show some sort of care. Expected me to layout the entire pool to check parts they sent. 80% of what they sent wasn't labeled with part numbers. The Order email uses different terms and numbers for parts from the shipping notification which is different from the shipment list which is different from something else. i ended up with four different print offs trying to figure out what was missing and what wasn't. They shipped another pallet, was also missing stuff and had broken stuff on it (caused by them not the shipping company). there are essentially no instructions on how to put some of this Darn together other than an engineer drawing (which i know how to read). the part numbers on the engineer drawings dont match up to reality (shows a 4' tall wall the same call out as the front 12" tall step)... but they sent a second set of engineer drawings with a better break down. why there's two i dont know.

third shipment came and finally have everything. i hope. a styrofoam coping piece was crammed too tight into a box and its broken again but they say to just use it and be happy. there's issue with a brace or two but im sure i'll figure it out.

oh, the best part is, in multiple spots in the instructions it calls for a 24" overdig and DO NOT go more than 30" or the world will end. well, it turns out thats for their shorter wall pools and not the 48" wall version i got. so i got my entire digout done to 24" over dig only to find out the braces for my pool are 30" long and i had to redig.

i would get about one email per day to try to figure this out. so what could have been resolved in 3-4 qucik emails took 3-5 days or more. calls were sometimes returned eventually but then things that were said were left for interpretation and not able to be referenced.

so yeah, their shipment / inventory / part labeling / instructions. but their presales team was great.

they offered me $100 worth of their Royal Bucks or whatever they're called for a future purchase for my trouble. its been months of ********.
