What mechanisms are effective at cutting the hardness of the fill water when topping off your pool? It was high last year, so I wanted to add water with a much lower hardness when I started this year.

I do have a water softener.

I've seen people talk about screw-on filters to go on the hose.

What about doing both?

What has been effective for you?

According to your PoolMath logs, your CH is 400ppm but you can use rain water/softened water normally for fill water. Do not use Cal Hypo as that just adds calcium.

If you fill your pool with your water softener water, that will eliminate the calcium from your water. I would suggest using the softened water for fill water. Fill the pool with your normal water.

Oh, nice the logs are attached.

Yeah, using Cal hypo was dumb.

It's 1/2 to 3/4 full now. I'll start running water softener water into it.
