micro clear de filter rusted top manifold

Pool guy opened this to clean the grids and said the rod was stripped and spinning so he didn’t take the grids out, was worried it would let go back together because I need a new rod. Do I need a new top manifold top? Why would it be rusted like that. Grids were replaced 2 months ago.

Looks like the nut that was on it was carbon steel and not stainless steel. It appears that the washer and bolt are stainless.
