I have a UV system and I don't quite understand how to manage the chlorine. my pool is above ground 24' dia 52" h, I have the small hayward chlorinator. I am concerned if I use "conditioned" chlorine pucks that the uv light will kill off the chlorine and I would just be increasing the conditioner. What lvl of ppm should I target? I have to get a decent test kit right now I have only the strips and it is impossible to read.

Unfortunately you got stored on the UV system over a SWCG. The UV is useless in an outdoor pool. The sun is the ultimate UV system. You want to keep your chlorine readings equal to 8-11% of your cya reading. Unfortunately the more pucks dissolve the higher the cya reading. It’s a classic dog chasing his tail routine.

I suggest you read ...

I would ditch the UV system and ditch the chlorinator and put in a SWG.

We set our FC targets based on the CYA level. See FC/CYA Levels
