I have an old fiberglass pool that had the main drain sealed up from a previous owner for what reason I don't know. The pool is currently drained for repainting and upon cleaning noticed that the cover for the drain seems to be homemade. Before painting i want to seal the hole again with a new setup but not sure how to go about that. Can i fill the hole with something? Is there a cover designed for this? The body of the drain is still in there and in decent condition. On the plastic pieces i see 2 part numbers 1058c and SP-1053-BIMG_8830.jpegIMG_8829.jpegIMG_8832.jpeg

Welcome to TFP! There was probably a leak in the drain line so they just plugged it permanently. That's quite common. It might be from an older Hayward drain set-up. THIS PLACE has some, but a slightly different model (out of stock). HERE is another link you could try. If those can't help, you might call InyoPools to see if they can cross-reference that to anything that will suit your purpose for a nice cosmetic cover. Hope that helps get you started.

Just to clarify, the main drain is permanently closed up and will not be used as a drain ever. If it’s possible I would prefer to be able to just not have anything there at all

yeah seems the actually part doesn’t exist anymore. What do people usually do when they permanently seal the main drain? Can you fill it somehow? The old setup the previous owner just attached a ceramic piece with silicone on top of the plastic piece to cover the drain holes

You can either leave it as-is and find a new decorative drain (faux) cover, or see if someone can fill it level and apply a fiberglass patch with blue gelcoating. That might be more $$$$ and work that it's worth, but you can check around. Contact some marine places nearby. They might do it for you.

Thanks! I ordered some new gaskets and a cover that I hope will work and some Boss 802 pool silicone for extra sealing. Let’s hope the parts will fit right!
