Main Drain Question

Does anyone know what the second pipe at the main drain is for?

There will be 2 drains by code. It is a safety feature.

Unfortunately, a small child was gruesomely injured by a single drain in a hot tub...so now 2 are required for suction release. At least that is the story from my PB

There is a second drain not shown in this picture, they have to be min. 3' apart. This looks like they have 2 pipes going to one drain.

Sorry about that I responded before your picture loaded. I remember my drain setup being one pipe that teed out to the 2 drains. Hmmm...
