Regular may have a few additives, that would be bad to eat. "Food Grade" is more resistant to wearing off, no bad things (although for a pool I doubt that matters) and stands up better to temperature extremes. So would tend to last longer before reapplication.
Ace hardware sells it in spray cans, for about $17.

them and walmart have it. just have to get to the store this week and grab some. do you spray just the rope and the pullies? or do you spray down the channel the cover slides in more than just the rope
