Low water pressure pool pump help diagnosing please

We've started the SLAM and everything was going well. Last night we powered down to clean the cartridges. When we fired up the system again we found that we had lost suction from the pool pipes. We have a spa as well but when we switch the valves to draw from the spa it works perfectly. Back to pool it pulls then drops to low flow. There is some water pulling but not the flush of water that we were seeing. It then flows at a low rate for a few minutes then kicks back in and repeats. Help!

bw,

With the pump running look in the skimmer... if it looks like a flushing toilet, then either your weir door is stuck up or the water level in the pool is way too low.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Looks like the thread below solved our issue.

Thanks for your help!

We used a shop vac in blow mode and wrapped a towel to create a seal and blew air into the line to the skimmer. It didn't look like anything happened. Then we ran the pump and boom! Black junk and leaves cleared out in the skimmer. Success!
Partially Clogged Skimmer Intake Line

edit: so just to clarify what was happening. It seems that one of the inlet lines to our Paramount skimmer had clogged. We suspect it was from the main pool drain line (but we aren't exactly sure where it comes from). Because this line was clogged and couldn't feed the skimmer, there wasn't adequate water in the skimmer basket to fully feed the pump. It would get going, but then starve itself of water because one of the inlet lines was clogged. We even tried running the garden hose in to supplement, but without that one inlet line, there just wasn't enough water to keep the pool pump happy.

Anyway, as we said, blowing out the line seemed to help dislodge whatever bottom sludge was in there. Once that was free, the skimmer stayed full of water, and all was right with the world again.
