Lost connection to heater

Hi All,

First, I have to thank this forum for some advice I found here (using Google) about installing a Pentair Screenlogic2 wireless system to my pool controller - it worked so well that I registered here.

Now to my issue: my pool control system (Pentair Easytouch/Screenlogic) no longer communicates with my electric pool heater (Hayward). This happened a couple of months ago, possibly after a big power outage. The Easytouch system thinks its connected, but doesn't change the temperature on the heater. The heater works fine if I manually change the temperature setting on the heater unit itself. My thought is that it's a communication settings issue within the Pentair Easytouch control, but where do I start? Any troubleshooting advice?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Andy,

Welcome to TFP... A great place to find the answers to all your "What have I lost?" questions... :shark:

I doubt that the EasyTouch can actually communicate with your heater using the serial com port, as I don't see the summit having this capability... Most heaters are controlled by a simple two wire system. Here are the instructions that I copied from the summit manual...

Control using a switch
To control the board using an external switch, follow these steps :
• Turn on the heat pump.
• Set POOL mode to OFF.
• Set SPA mode to the desired temperature.
• Access the setup menu.
• Select mode E (external) on the P_S menu.
• Run two J7 (P_S) terminal wires from the HPEC-003 board to the NO
switch terminals (see FIG. 4).
• You can now control the operating mode by turning off the switch
(open = POOL, closed = SPA.)

If the above does not work, then we need to know for sure how your heater is connected to the EasyTouch.. Drop your front panel down and find where the wires from the heater are attached.. Most likely the wires are attached to J19 in the lower right of the pic below..

Thanks,

I suspect your heater is connected to the J19 on the main board
