As Marty points out, the idea that you have to "turnover" your pool water x times a day is not really true. Chemicals keep your pool sanitized and clear, not the number gallons that you push through the filter.. The filter is just there to capture the stuff that falls into your pool, not to prevent algae.
I never recommend running GPM unless specifically needed for some special requirement. You really want the flow to decrease if something is wrong, so that you know it and can take care of the problem.. GPM can hide problems, if the pool owner is not alert.
