Losing suction while vacuuming

The suction on the skimmer while vacuuming is not consistent. It looses suction and then comes back. We just replaced the pump. Pool store said I had an air leak is why

For a change, the pool store is probably right. Check the pump drain plug and the pump basket lid. The corrugated hose is the most likely, though. A pinhole that is submerged when on one side of the pool may be exposed to air as you move to the other. As soon as it starts sucking air, you lose prime. Try reversing the hose and see if it gets better or worse.

I found a crack in my skimmer box around the suction line. My pool will not hold water above the skimmer. Is it safe to say that’s my air and water leak?
