Losing Chlorine FC 28 to 7 in 24 hours

You obviously have an algae problem.

SLAM Process means Shock Level And MAINTAIN. It doesn't last two days -- it lasts however long it lasts. Keep SLAMming until your water is crystal clear, CC is 0.5 or less, and Overnight Chlorine Loss Test is 1 or less.

Also go around the pool looking for algae. Skimmer weirs, ladders, ropes, pool toys, mats -- all can hide algae. Brush your pool daily during the SLAM.

Thanks, pool is clear, CC is 0, have not done the overnight test yet. We haven't had issues before and are consistent on maintenance. Just noticed the increase in consumption. How harmful is swimming in a pool in this condition w/ possible algae?

SLAM Process fc level for 50 cya (always round up to the next 10) is 20ppm - any extra fc is just a donation to the sun gods & a risk to equipment & people.
It is safe to swim with fc between min & slam level for your cya. FC/CYA Levels
As lorri said its not a once or twice addition of liquid chlorine - you maintain your 20ppm until u pass all 3 end of slam criteria. Testing fc & adding liquid chlorine as frequently as necessary - not more than once per hour but at least multiple times per day.

So I've been maintaining FC of 20 for 3 days. Water is and has always been clear. CC goes back and forth from 0.0 to 0.5. OCLT has been 4-5 loss each night. We've removed, cleaned and sanitized the ladder, brushed pool etc. I thought we would have seen improvements as far as not losing so much chlorine by now. Checking every few hours today, cloudy outside, not cloudy pool water, with a loss of FC of 5-7 between tests/chlorine additions. The CYA seems to be lower from the beginning of summer. Originally was 50, has been 40ish lately. I put more in to get closer to 50. Any suggestions? Thanks

Just Keep being diligent & maintaining slam level fc for your cya level FC/CYA Levels
No need to add stabilizer it just increases your needed fc slam level.
You’re at the pool owner patience part.
Have u added anything else besides liquid chlorine to the pool recently?

You have algae hiding somewhere. Can you post pics of your pool from multiple sides so we can try to see if we can spot something?
