looking to replace sand filter

We replaced the multi-valve port on our 18 yr old sand filter 3 years ago. This past summer and currently now when I backwash and then go back in filter mode I will have water leaking from the filter. This probably happens 50 percent of the time. We are looking to replace the whole filter.
So I have two questions.
1. Is it worth replacing the multi-valve again to see if that would stop the leaking.
2. If we decide to replace sand filter looking for recommendations between: sand, cartridges or DE.

Since this if my first post wasn't for sure if my signature info would show up so just in case here is my pool info:
35K gal, vinyl, sand filter, Pentair superflo VS pump, Polaris 280

Thanks,
Teresa

Show us a pic of the water leak from the MPV.

If you don’t want to deal with a sand filter then get a cartridge filter.
