Looking for insight on a pump

Hi - I'm looking for some insight.

I was invited Amazon Vine. One of the things that came across was a variable speed pool pump (second link). My current pump was installed back in 2015 (first link). It hasn't given me any problems, but how long will it last?

I'm wondering if I can do a direct swap for the variable speed? I know it wouldn't fit the strainer housing, but it looks like it comes with that as well. I assume I wouldn't need to purchase anything else?

The impeller would come with the new one? My pump is hardwired. I noticed the difference in voltage (115/230 vs. 220/240).

Finally, I see it's supposed to be more energy efficient to have a VS. I don't run my pump 27/7, so would it really make much of a difference? is there a reason to vary the speed? Thanks.

What pump do you have now? Many wet end units(pump with motor removed) can be retrofitted with a VS motor or 2 speed which could minimize any new plumbing concerns.

Fiberglass with SWG, Aquarite. Currently hardwired to 220. I would replace the pump and wet end with the VS.

You have a Hayward Super Pump. What horsepower is it now. There are variable speed motors that will fit. Better than purchasing an off- brand pump that may not be able to be serviced/repaired when needed.

It’s 1.5. The housing is Hayward but the motor isn’t.

As far as regret, I hear you. There is nothing wrong with my current one at 7 years old.

I wouldn’t even consider it except that I can get the VS through Amazon Vine, which would have me paying my fed tax rate when tax time rolls around. I estimate it would cost me 180-200 next year.

If I end up needing to replace my current I would likely just buy the same motor, currently $210.

I’m just trying to determine if I will have any issues from a spec standpoint switching over. And that everything is there I need. Or if it will cause any other issues with the Aquarite before it disappears.

I'm a 2 speed and a liquid chlorinator so i will bow out...stay tuned and expert advice will follow.

Very soon, by DOE regulation, that motor may no longer be available. No pump manufacturer makes motors, even it their label is on them. If your motor does not say Hayward, it is a replacement motor. Because of the new (7/19/2021) regulations, the price and availability of variable-speed motors and pumps has been greatly reduced, while the prices have gone up greatly. There will always be foreign manufacturers jump in, but getting parts and service for them is "iffy" at best.

Thanks. It doesn't matter now. I waited too long. and it's gone. At $180, the only reason I'd regret it was if it died in the next year or two. I wouldn't care if parts were going to be available if it were to last me as long as my current has lasted so far.

Personally, I don't necessarily care that it's VS. I've just read many people talking about having them and how great they were, saw this option, and figured it was comparable or less than what I would have to pay to replace my existing motor if it died today.
