We recently purchase a house with a pool, and I have been slowly learning and repairing the components - mostly with great information from this site. The one last item is this mysterious oxidizer. I cannot find any information about the maker or how it suppose to work. The very faint lettering on the front says "aquathech", "oxidizer chemical reduction systems", "Engineering for Excellence".
The tube is connected somewhere underground. I suppose it is going into the SPA, but where. How can I tell if it doing anything?

Thanks,

Ron

Welcome to TFP.

Let's see if @1poolman1 has ever seen that gadget.

I would say rip it out. Whatever it is doing can't be good. And it looks old enough that it is probably dead.

You can try and open the control box and show us what is inside.

It looks like an ozone device.

Can you open it up and show what is inside?

Here is some contact information.

Aquatech was founded in 1963 by a small faction of luxury pool builders.

In March 2013, the group known as Aquatech launched a new identity, United Aqua Group, as corporate parent for its growing family of professional pool construction and retail brands: Aquatech, Aquacommercial and AquaValue.

Under the new organizational structure, each brand is unique and focused on a different market segment.

Wow, great information.

By popular demand, I opened it up. The body is an enclosed aluminum with covers on both end. There is a divider, and one side has 2 glass tubes bulbs of some sort and the other side has a transformer and some control circuitry. The tube on the right side is just open to the cavity with the 2 glass bulbs. I assume the tubes were creating the ozone gas which was sucked into the tube and connected to the system somewhere underground.

Looks to be a 1990's vintage ozone device.
My pool originally had a similar one installed.
You don't need it - it's probably not functional based on your pics anyway. Remove the unit, electrical and tubing.

The valve between the 1/2" PVC and flexible tubing regulates the airflow.
That PVC line is connected to the return line below grade.
Be sure the valve is closed. If it won't fully close or leaks, cut the valve out and glue on a 1/2" PVC cap.

Yup, old Aquatech ozonator. Tubes are dead, enclosure corroded. Toss it.
Should have had a tube running to a venturi injector in the plumbing that can be removed as well. Might look like this:

Do I understand correctly that an ozone system is for an indoor SPA? Why did they put it on my system, which is all outdoor?
Those gadgets are very profitable for builders.
