Look What I Found In Both Of My Skimmer Baskets

When I first saw it, I assume it was an old plastic bag of some type.. But it was in both baskets..

Turns out it was paint.. I use my garage as a paint both sometimes, and a whole house fan sucks the fumes out the back door of the garage. Unfortunately, this is right over the top of my pool. I have done a ton of painting since the pool as installed, but have never seen this before.

The difference is that this time I was spraying oil based paint.. I assume it collected on the top of the pool water and then moved into the skimmers... It does not look like it made it into the filter (pressure wise), but I won't know until I clean them next in the Spring.

Thanks,

Jim R.

And people ask us what is the stuff they see floating on the top of their pool water.

All sorts of stuff from the atmosphere lands in a pool.

Oh my! That’s crazy!
I am planning on spraying my carport ceiling but I will certainly make sure the pool is covered when I do it!
My hubby paints cars in our shop on occasion - I think the last one was done when the pool was covered but I will be paying attention next time!

Here is some tubing and a bag that can help catch any paint in the air exhaust.

I'm not really worried about it, I just thought it was interesting that the misty overspray was able to collect in the skimmers and then reform into basically thick pieces of paint. The piece in the pic is about 2" x 6" and is only about 1/5th of what I removed.. I see no overspray on the coping or surrounding decking..

In a way, it is a pretty good indication as to how well my skimmers work at 1200 RPM..

I do have some baffling that forces the exhaust to go up and to the left, which is right over the pool. I can only assume the overspray can only stay airborne for so long, and then it just started dropping out of the air, right in the middle of my pool..

As JamesW suggests, a filter, of some kind, on the exhaust side of the fan would have been a good idea... I'll look into that idea..

Thanks,

Jim R.

My first impression was a COVID mask blew in the pool - but then you said it was in both skimmers.
It is amazing as to what can fall into the pool and collect in the skimmers. You may want to brush your waterline tiles really good to disperse any film on them.
