Liquid chlorine Pricing

I used to get 12% liquid chlorine from local pool store in 2.5g jugs. This year it costs $6 per gallon. In Homedepot I can buy 10% 1g liquid chlorine for $4.50(pool essentials). Assuming both are fresh, is there any point buying 12% and paying $1.50 more per gallon vs 10%?

Pool math has a bleach calculator that you cab use on the fly whenever the prices change. Click the hamburger menu in the upper left corner. :)

Other times the slightly more costly kind is more convenient. It all depends.

No, not at all. Just do the math to see which is cheaper per unit CL. Realize that it’ll take about 1.2 gallons of 10% to equal 1 gallon of 12%. Some buy laundry bleach (unsented), only about 5%, but same stuff, but it’s what’s available to them. $4.50 x 12% / 10% = $5.40, still a bargain compared to $6, especially if you buy quantity each trip.

Just realize that 12.5% LC is less stable than 10%. 12.5% will only retain its potency, if stored in a cool space with no sunlight, for about a month and then it’s basically 10% LC. So you have to factor that in when stocking up.
