after having some confusing fc tests , i guess my 10% chlorine may now be around 6%. it was manufactured 7/2018 and has been stored inside. my fc tested 5.5. i added a quart. after 45 mins the pool water tested 7.5. does that sound right?
Using Pool Math for a 9K gal pool estimates a 2.8ppm rise of FC with a 32oz app of 10% bleach and a 1.7ppm rise with 6%.
Yes one cause of your unexpected result may be the degradation of the bleach you have.
Another may be your water volume estimation is off.
Another may involve the precision of your FC measurement (assuming you used a 10ml water sample).
You are smart to confirm your numbers after an application and not simply assuming you reached your target.
