Liner replacement

Hello everyone. Our liner had some damage early in the season. We patched and enjoy the summer away. However, the liner will need to be replaced next year. It only fails along one side where the sun shines strong most of the day. It is a shame as it is in a good shape otherwise. So, we got couple quotes and we are suffering sticker shock. Seriously. Have anyone here had their liner replaced recently? How long ago was your last replacement? What are some of the things to consider when getting a replacement?

It had a tear on the top portion, which we were able to patch, but the tearing grew a bit and we will need to replace it.

Are you planning to install it yourself or have it installed professionally?

Indeed. Pardon for wording it incorrectly. My husband mentioned about us installing, but have never done it before, I am not sure we are up to the task. The price is killing us, however.
