So we’ve been chasing a leak all summer. The pool people said it’s probably time to get a new liner, because ours is 7 years old. I can’t believe something so expensive has such a short life span! They told me that environmental regulations changed what liners are made of now, so they will better degrade in landfills.
Is this true?
Is there a liner out there that will last a long time?
The person telling me this doesn’t make money off of me getting a new liner, so I don’t think he’s trying to sell me something.

Do you know where the leak is? It could be in the plumbing or a gasket that has nothing to do with the liner. It's easy to blame the liner for a leak if they don't feel comfortable searching for a leak. Consider getting another opinion.

Your liner looks horrible for 7 years old.

Your other post shows mustard algae.

When was the pool liner installed?

It looks like the chemistry and maintenance have been poorly done for a while.

Most likely, you are on the pool store roller coaster of low chlorine followed by algae and then throwing cal hypo at the problem to try to kill the algae and so on.

They fixed a few things on the outside as well. There are only two other people where we live to get to come look at a leak, and we literally can’t get anywhere me to come. This store does actually have the most experience.

Yeah, this pic is a few weeks old. I’ve been slam-ing the pool and the algae is almost gone, water looks great. The liner does look terrible bc of poor pool maintenance - hence me making the switch to this website. I’ve gotten help with all of those things on a different post.

I’m just trying to figure out the truth on the liner stuff.

They told me that used to be the case but liners are made to decompose more quickly now - wondering if anything be else has heard this.
Ask them to tell you where they got this information.

What is the basis for the claim?

Contact CGT and ask them.

They make a lot of the sheet vinyl for pool liner manufacturers.
