Levels okay? And a bit of a rant.

So taking over my pool so I've been acquiring proper test items, etc. I got Leslie's at home test. More on that in a minute. Also Taylor 2005C and the stick that measures salinity and pH. SWG has been set at 50-60%, water is 85ish and air 90+, and 95 recently for several days. Run time is 18 hours a day for now, mainly to get it to cool down a few degrees at night. Here are some numbers from today's test using Accublue home kit.


I got a similar report the first time I used it and almost went full panic mode. Now get this. This is what it is telling me to add:
41 lbs of hardness plus
11 ounces of chlorine neutralizer
38 ounces of conditioner (even though when you dig further they say for SWG CYA should be 30-100.
195 pounds of salt!
48 ounces of nophos

I've done a lot of reading here, and I think their test is not only inaccurate in some areas but their recommendations are ridiculous. Here are the Taylor 2005C results:
Salinity Iaqualink 3000
Salinity (electronic stick) 2860
pH 7.8
FC 8
Alk 80
Calcium 180
CYA 40

I added 10 ounces of a 20%ish MA (kleen strip) and prob 15 pounds of salt. Aquapure now shows 3100 so will add the rest of the bag. pH on my electronic stick shows 7.2 now. And from what I've gathered on this forum, I'm perfectly fine at these levels. I had just raised the SWG to 60% because FC was down in the 3s but will drop it to 50%. I have some hardness plus and conditioner on hand if you guys think I need anything else. Full report is attached.

Lastly, pH got up to 8.3 yesterday so hit it with many doses of MA. Hoping to get it under control but understand that with a SWG and hot weather, the pH could be a battle until we get a break in the weather...

Dont trust anything leslies gices you as a test result or follow any of their advice. Trash their tests and get the FAS-DPD chlorine test kit to make your home kit a K2006.

The 2005C does have reagents R001-R003. Does the kit you recommend do something additional? Thank you for your response.

Adding the above will make your K-2005 essentially a K-2006.
The R-0001, R-0002 and R-0003 just aren't sufficient to measure levels over FC 5.
Have a look at the FC/CYA Levels chart - you should be dosing FC for the high side of the target range.

This is probably a better value than purchasing the Taylor 1515a kit. Compare reagent sizes.

Just got the kit 6/24 but the R002 reagent expires in November of this year so I've asked if they will replace that one. All the rest expire next year...

So I want to bump CYA to 60-90 at which point FC of 8 is no big deal. I'll order the additional chlorine test kit as well. Will add some conditioner to raise CYA. Thank you!
