Leveling ground questions

Hello!

I have sadly failed at my first attempt to level my backyard for a 16’ by 10’ rectangular Coleman pool. I made the horrible mistake of building up with sand.

Next year however , I plan to level the ground. I was thinking a 20’ by 16’ or 14’ pad rectangular.

Whenever I do google searches I find examples of how to level ground for a circular pool , however mine will obviously be a rectangular pad.

What are some tips and help that you guys can offer to be sure I can get this job done right?

Attached is the failure that I first attempted , prior to learning that I should’ve dug down instead of build up.

I know it looks horrible. I was given 48 hours by my impatient fiance to have a pool running without knowing enough to explain to her the need to be precise.

Tell your impatient one that the pool will fail aka get ruined if the area under it is not level. Then they will not have a pool to enjoy at all :(

Leveling the ground for any pool is just about the same. Paint out the area you want to level. Start digging. Once you THINK it is level use a STRAIGHT, long board to drag along the ground to see where there are any high spots. Use a small shovel to remove the high spots. You can also use water to show you where the low spots are as they will puddle up there. It is the worst part about putting up a pool BUT when it is done it is so worth it.
