Leaving the pool for a week

We have an Easy Set 12' x 30" pool (~1500 gallons). I've kept it tested and chlorinated all summer without incident. When not in use, I keep it tightly covered with an opaque tarp. I generally have to add some chlorine every day when it is open, usually 1-3 oz of 12.5% bleach, though sometimes when it has been covered all day I haven't had to.

We're going on vacation for a week at the end of August and I'm wondering what to do with the pool. One option is to call the season over and drain it (we're in Boston so probably it is over regardless). If I don't drain it, I'll leave it covered the whole time I'm gone. Is it reasonable to over-chlorinate it in advance for a week? If so, how much should I add? Any other suggestions?

I do not have a cover so that is good that you do. You can bring it up to SLAM level before you leave and cover it.
Do you know about how much PPM you lose each day with or without the cover on? You can calculate how much you lose over that 7 day period and determine if the SLAM level is adequate. Additionally, you can put a floater in the pool with some pucks as a back up.

When I went away for a week I used SLAM level and pucks in a floater, but did not have a cover. It worked for me.
