Super rare for them to do that. I had the opposite experience.
But note that the water clarity probably isn’t a filter issue, it’s more likely lack of sanitizer causing an algae bloom to start.

When we bought the house, the water was clear and I could see the bottom of the deep end but the bottom was so full of old leaves as was the surface so I got all the leaves cleaned out and replaced the old Polaris 280 that wasn't working with a Polaris Quattro P40 (with a $150 rebate)!
I don't know how long it had been since the filter and sweep had not been on with the old owners
I took a water sample down to the pool place and got a Phosphate reading of 2195 ppb. They sent me home with No Phos and advised me to add a certain amount at time, run it for 48 hrs, backwash, rinse and repeat. This is when I noticed the pool getting cloudy and apparently it is due to whatever is going into the filter is coming immediately unfiltered back out!
After some time I got the readings down to 76!!! The pool will clear up without the filter on, but as soon as I turn it on the cloudiness returns.
I'm hoping with the new filter I will see better results and get all my numbers back to where they should be! The guy said i will see a great difference from a sand filter to cartridge filters! The Polaris Quattro P40 is working very good and I'm pleased I bought it!

I don't want to detract form the excitement of getting a new filter. That's great. But everything you are dscribing above points potentially to algae. There is no filter on the market that can compete with live algae. It's all about chemistry.
So once your new filter is installed, I would recommend starting a new thread in the Testing and Balancing sub-forum. Post a full set of water test results with your TF-Series or Taylor K-2006C test it. As we always say here at TFP, pool store testing and advice is often laced with flaws. One example - the PhosFree they sold you. It will not kill algae and is watered-down. Phosphate control is often times the last thing you need to be trying to manage if the water chemistry is correct. So give that some thought once everything is done there on the pad and we'll be glad to help you in another thread discussion.
You also don't know how long it went without being chlorinated.
Clear water means nothing because algae is microscopic. It grows exponentially and by the time you can see it, it's already a runaway train.
The Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will let you know if it's algae or the filter.
How are you testing ?
Sign spider gasket leaking is usually water loss to backwash.
A sign of lateral issues is usually sand returning to the pool; there is usually a small pile immediately under the pool return.
Whilst chemistry is the more common cause of pool water clarity issues, equipment can cause problems, too, just less commonly.

Maybe I'm not really understanding what is happening with the pool just yet! My plan is to just wait until the new equipment is installed and then start fresh using advice and what I learn from this Forum!
The pool was built in 1977 the same year our house was! I feel good that I'm starting off with a new filter and pool sweep.
The guy actually just showed up with the new filter. It's a PENTAIR CLEAN AND CLEAR PLUS CCP420.
Do we like this brand/model?

I have not used any test kits yet. I just took the samples from the pool down to Leslie’s Pool.

Your next bit of pool education should be that Leslie’s is really unreliable with water testing. You’ll be much happier staying out of there.

As recommended by a friend I ditched them and called a local pool company, Gregg’s Pool. The guy came out, checked my water with a test kit, added chems, (was blown away by the old school pool controls on our bedroom wall!) and diagnosed our faulty pool filter! He was great and gave me an estimate but told me to call my home warranty company first!Your next bit of pool education should be that Leslie’s is really unreliable with water testing. I tried to have them do the filter replacement but the home warranty company said it has to be a company in their approved list. I told them I tried but it was going to be another company and they were just happy to know I was going to get it replaced.
AV Hawaiian (an hour away in Colfax) did the work and I was very happy with them. I tried to give him a tip but he wouldn’t accept it and said you already paid for the service call ($85) and he thanked me for the thought!
Be very careful with anyone other than yourself testing water. I had a couple “professionals” test the water and they weren’t so successful in being accurate. The Taylor kits (TF-100 or K2006C) have proven to be pretty reliable compared with the 5in1 or 6in1 kits you get at pool stores. TFP only provides guidance on results that come with one of the two test kits recommended above.

Well…I got a $150 rebate from buying the Quattro P40 so I can use that to go buy myself a Taylor K2006C tomorrow and with everyone’s help get back on track!

Yep, TF-100, TF-Pro, pro-salt are all the same with different extras.
Of course. They all use the Taylor drops. How much of them come, and how old they are when they do is the only question.

Personally, I wouldn't waste my time looking around locally or efen online for a Taylor K-2006C (yeah, the 'C' is important). The TF Testkits offering contains more of the reagents residential pool owners use. And the reagents are guaranteed fresh. Get a kit with the stirring device, you won't regret it - makes testing so much easier, accurate and repeatable. The TF-Pro or TF-Pro Salt (if you're considering a SWCG - and you seriously should consider one) will suit you well.
