Leak in the pool....

Hey guys, I have a gunite pool that was inherited when we bought the house.

Been in the house for about 2 years, now I'm having to fill the water about ever 2 days. Maybe 1/2 " drop in the water line every 2-3 days.

I've done the bucket test and It's not evaporation. Seems like it leaks more with the pump on.

Should I pay the $400 to have a professional leak test?

Any recommendations of trusted companies in the Dallas / Fort Worth (Mid cities) area?

I just don't want to use a no name company and I'm sure they will "find" a leak no matter what kind of leak I have. I don't mind paying for the detection but I want an honest company that won't take me for a ride and tell me I have a $2000 leak when its something simple.

Thank you!

Before you call someone, let me ask some questions that may help others who stumble across your thread ....
- Do you see the same water loss in the winter?
- Do you see any unusual wet spots around the yard on the pressure side back to the returns that would indicate water seepage?
- Can you tell us the surface dimensions of your pool (i.e. 16x40, etc)? Between TX sun and wind, a certain amount of water loss is acceptable.

Just want to do a sanity check before you invest in a service.

First thing I would do is start looking for the leak yourself. Any wet spots under the equipment on the pad? Any wet areas in the lawn you can't explain?
Have you checked the skimmer box area for cracks which leak?

Thanks for the reply guys.

I actually have to fill the water every 4-5 days in the winter. Not as bad but definitely do notice the water loss in the winter too. The most I can go without filling the pool is 5 days in the dead of winter.
I'm not really good at noticing water seepage but there are some soft spots around my pad area now that I think about it.

And i'm not very technically handy type of guy and I just don't have the time to be looking for these things. I don't mind paying someone to check it out, just wanted to know any reputable companies out there.

Even if I find the leak, I wouldn't have the know how or time to fix it :)

I work about 90 hrs a week and its cheaper for me to hire someone to fix it then spend my time looking around. I know it sounds crazy.

I just hate those companies that come out and try and gouge you. I live in a affluent area and once they see my zip code they automatically up charge because they automatically assume I can afford it.
