Leak in skimmer faceplate

I think I have a leak in my skimmer faceplate. I have gone through the testing for evaporation, turning off the pump to see if the leak is in the liner or the plumbing, and checked any areas that would be culprits for a tear in the liner. Now I just need to know if I should remove the faceplate to investigate or if I should simply use some of the underwater putty stuff to create a seal around the faceplate of the skimmer. I am going to use a dye leak detection kit tomorrow just to make sure that's where the leak is before I actually move forward with the repair. I'm pretty sure this is where the leak is though. Thanks.

FYI, you could have used red food coloring to check for your leaks instead of paying $$$ for a leak detection kit.

I would go a head and use the putty if you are sure that is where you leak is located. Removing the skimmer face plate could cause more issues.

You can confirm the leak location with the kit, use pool putty to seal up the faceplate and then use the kit to make sure the leak is fixed. A bucket test when you are finished will help rule out any other leaks.

Thanks for your input. The kit I was talking about was just the dye detection kit. No biggie. I just confirmed the leak is at the faceplate so I will take your advice and just seal around it will putty. Thanks again!
