Leaf Cannisters, Fish Net stockings and an embarrasing high school photo

I'm thinking about ordering a leaf canister and wondering if it's worth it. My cleanerbot 3000 (a Kreepy Krawly Sand Shark) picks up a few long stringy palm tree frond parts, these little palm tree parts that blow down like tiny spinning helicopters in the monsoons and millions? billions? zillions? of "things" that look like tiny pine cones but are soft. As you can tell, I got a degree in botany...and partying. Also, there are usually some pebbles in my pump basket.

My fish net stocking question is are the baskets better in leaf canisters or are the mesh filters? Also, like much in life, I've been told that size matters with a canister. That is still true, right? Somewhere around here I saw a link to the "canister that everyone recommends" on Amazon, but I can't find it now. Is that Zodiac cyclonic canister worth it, or do I just go with the generic, 17 inch long canister style? Basket style or stocking style?

Also, no embarrassing high school pictures are here, but I had to draw interest in some how, I mean, who's going to read another thread about leaf canisters?

Ahhhhhhh man! I was ONLY looking for the pic! well Bye! I am :gone:

LOL

For the cleaner the smaller the holes in the fishnet stocking the smaller stuff it can catch BUT also the more you will need to clean it. It is 6 of one, half a dozen of another. Weigh your needs and go from there.

I have a Barracuda cleaner that is meant to use that Zodiac Dyson canister thing but I didn't like that it could go sideways and potentially draw in air into the canister. I like to leave the unit unattended for periods of time, so I went with a Hayward W530. It has a mesh bag in it for fine debris, it isn't as fine a bag as the hair nets/skimmer socks but I love it so far. Holds more than my skimmer and traps finer debris like the needles from our hedges. I figure after the bag breaks on the W530 it wouldn't be hard to attach a hair net to it.

If you have the Zodiac locking hose pieces you need adapters to put in normal canisters. Thinking about it now, the cheaper W560 might be the better buy if you add a hair net to that. Not sure how easy or difficult that would be. I definitely like having a canister hooked up to my cleaner and would recommend you get one that picks up fine debris, or convert one to do so.

I have the Zodiac one. I generally do not have a problem with it turning sideways and sucking and Air. Although the fact that I'm using a dedicated suction line that is a good two feet below the water level means that it is generally held in place pretty well below the water level
