Killing Algae and taking names, my slam experience(leaving town soon too)

Might want to run the pump for a while when you have enough water to run again, or if you have main, run pump off main while you are filling to mix. If you have a dolphin throw that in. Water temp likely to be different and will somewhat stratify. Maybe let pump run an hour to two after filled before testing.
Yes, I agree, Im still running the pump as Im filling now with just main drain going. I have a polaris, you think i should turn it on and let it go around?

I don’t know DE filters all that well, I would recharge and go…
Questions for you:

My plan while Im gone. Its is going to be hot here this week and Im paranoid about coming back to a swamp. The help I have can be here likely 3 times over the two weeks Im gone.

I will hopefully complete the SLAM process in the next two or three days. Assuming that I do.

I will use tabs just for the two weeks while Im gone and have her use LC based on the FC burn rate I calculate with tablets in the water to reduce how many times she needs to come out. Does this sound reasonable? Then when I get back I move back to just LC until I upgrade to a salt water pool.

Then I think the plan you have is the best you can do, given the situation.
Im on hour 12 of filling got about 2inches before I hit the skimmers and 6 or 7inches ti max fill.

slam questions:
once I test and get my baseline, adjust ph to 7.2 wait 30minutes retest and if good Ill slam the pool. does time of day matter? I read LC breaks down fast in direct sunlight which obviously the sun is coming up. Should I wait till evening to start slam or given my timeline start immediately?

does time of day matter?
Nope, get yer SLAM on! Sun consumes way less that the algae.

Test and add every 2 hours. Not less (i.e. 1 hour). If you can do it every 2 hours it will go faster. Higher FC than SLAM will NOT provide faster result. 2 hours. Slam level.

Good luck!

2inches or so before I can slam, skimmers are back on. How wide should I leave the skimmers jandy valves open? It seems if I open too much even when all the way full they might draw air since they pull so hard. Im guessing this is a balancing act or should they be wide open? I have them half open right now now I got a decent suction and Im seeing a decent swirling in each skimmer and see a current moving crude into the skimmers but the water isnt dipping. any advicr?

I goofed and added the LC before adjusting the Ph to 7.2. Im going to wait an hour for the LC to circulate then add 65oz MA to reduce ph to 7.2. I read others on here doing same thing and other veteran members said to do what Im gonna do.

I personally wouldn’t add all that acid now. You can’t test pH to know what happens as a result. If you’re sure it was high before you added the chlorine and were sure how 65oz of acid will affect the water then maybe I’d be ok doing that.

i tested right before i added the LC (minutes before) i think it would be ok or should i hold off?

Are you confident in the 65oz? Pool math is just an estimate and it’s not good at estimating large pH changes. I might go halfway on the acid but that’s just my opinion.

babysat the pool as ordered every two hours tested and added FC as needed. I guess my question is now, is my overnight test valid at the FC21 level I got the pool to? I think i read some of you say at high FC levels the chlorine dissipates quicker so it would invalidate the test or is that just during the day. I didnt try to get FC to 21 btw, as I was told more LC over levels given doesnt help. Target FC was 16 for slam. Do I wake up early before sun touches pool and see what loss I got or?

One note other positive, my filter pressure issue did not present today so the folks who told me my pressure issue was like caked algae seem to be correct.
