Keep Chlorine tower when adding SWG?

Hi All-

Making the jump and adding on a SWG to our 6 month old pool.

My question is should we keep the old chlorine tower for “backup” use? For example when it’s too cold to run the SWG or if the SWG goes out for any reason? (We are in Houston so not too many cold days)

just wondering if we should keep it installed or just junk it?

thanks!!

You're doing it way smarter than I did. Took me years to move to swg. I'll never have a pool without swg again. I also got rid of my in line tablet chlorinator. Rationale for me was if I need to chlorinate manually for some reason a floater could work during a power outage plus what others said about fewer leak opportunities.

The other advantage of a floater is that chlorine is always in your pool - regardless if pump is running or not. somehow that gives me a good feeling especially when I am away. Also it is very easy for a relative or neighbor to check if for some reason you are delayed and you send someone to add pucks. There is no concern that they have to turn off pump, open canister, add pucks, close canister and ensure it is not leaking, turn on pump. With a floater, just pick it up, add pucks and drop it back in pool.

I would not worry about the ozone injector, in fact I'd just remove it. We don't endorse them for several reasons in pools and even in spas there are some drawbacks. Don't want to hijack your thread on this topic so I'll just offer this reference from our Further Reading section. You can read it and decide for yourself. I left my chlorine tablet tower installed and switched to floaters when we had a power failure and I was leaving town. Eventually, a fitting leaked in the chlorine tablet tower so I removed it.
