Just ordered a new spa

My wife got a new position at work and with her raise she wanted a hot tub. we started looking at pools but ended up deciding on the hot tub because of the year round usage. we decided on a sundance chelsee spa, which i hope is a good one. It sure seemed like a good one when we wet tested it, which everyone should do if they are in the market. the one we thought we wanted was terrible and we decided the chelsee fit us better.

So I have 4 weeks to get the electrical ready. I have the panel and getting the wire but one thing i'm not sure of is what is needed to go from the spa gfci shutoff to the tub. Can you use flexible waterproof conduit? does it have to go underground? The connection and wire size is no problem. I'd probably like to use the flexible conduit above the ground and just go to the tub but i'm having some trouble finding an answer to that.

What does your tub connection from the spa shut off look like?

I ran 1" pvc from the gfi disconnect to the spa. Underground and comes through my concrete pad to the bottom of the spa. From inside the unit I changed over to Sealtight(outdoor rated flex) (in NY the center it must have the armor) to the control box.

We purchased a Sundance 15 months ago and love it.

Ask your spa dealer your question, or ask the dealer for a electrical contractor referral, and ask the question. Code varies by state and (in some places) by local municipality. It may not cost anything for your answer from a local pro.

well i called the spa dealer and she connected me to one of the techs. He said it's OK to use the liquidtight flexible metal conduit from the spa gfci panel to the spa above ground. I've read that it has to be shorter than 6' but then somewhere I saw someone said that 6' limit was eliminated. The tech said that sometimes they install spas that have 10-15' of liquidtight above ground.

What does your tub connection from the spa shut off look like?

I'm in Texas and hired a neighbor who is a master electrician. The circuit to the GFCI is metal conduit attached to the side of my home. From the GFCI, which is 5 feet minimum from the spa, he used flexible conduit that is actually anchored to the concrete pad where it crosses over to the spa. The connection into the spa cabinet is a rigid plastic 90 degree elbow that seals against the spa surface and the flexible conduit.
