I opened my 15k gallon inground plaster pool two days ago. Water is clear but I am unable to get any reading for CC or FC.
Current readings are:
CC: 0
FC: 0
TC: 0
CH: 450
TA: 80
CYA: 75
PH: 7.4
Salt: 4100
Borate: 30
Temp: 71

Yesterday I added 4 gallons of 7% liquid bleach and still got zero CC. Today I added a 1 pound bag of HTH Pool Care Shock Advanced (56.44% Calcium Hypochlorite) and still get zero for CC. I have fresh test chemicals that I purchased this year from TFTestkits.com.

I am at a loss for what to try next. Please help!

You don't want CC you want FC

CC indicates its burning off from eating algae.

How old is the bleach? I used 2 year old to open my pool and it was = to less than 1%

You seem to be focused on CCs. I would encourage you to focus your attention on the FC level. You want that increased ASAP to avoid algae if it hasn't already started. Since you seem to have a very strong CYA level right now, use liquid chlorine to get the FC up to about 7-8 ppm and try to keep it there today. Then you might consider doing an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to ensure you have no algae starting to grow, Always refer to the
FC/CYA Levels

So it's safe to just keep adding liquid bleach by the gallon until I get a FC reading? I would have thought the initial 4 gallons would have shown something. Then I was more surprised that the HTH shock did not do anything either.

If im reading this correct, you filled the holder to 10ml or 25ml then added two scoops of r-0870 and it didn't turn pink?

I think your testing is incorect, you have added enought to make over 20.0 FC

To confirm ... you should be doing the FAS-DPD (powder & drops) in a 25ml tube. Fill the tube to 10ml. Then add one generous scoop of R-0870 powder and start mixing. Add R-0871 drops until clear and divide the result in half. Example: 10 drops to clear equals an FC of 5.

That is what I am doing.

Okay. Then if the water never turns ink when you first add the powder, you have no chlorine in the water. You need to add some liquid chlorine with good water circulation and test again in about 10 minutes. If it crashes to zero again report back and let us know.

Another note. If all you have is the 6.5%-7% chlorine (bleach), it adds only about 4 ppm in your 15K pool. It will disappear fast. At opening, it's anyone's guess about your true chemistry, so don't be misled by clear water alone. If your CYA test was accurate (and you're sure you did it correctly) then you need chlorine and lots of it. Preferably the 10% strength Pool Essentials from Walmart of your local hardware store. Your need to add a couple gallons right away which would be about 10 ppm in your pool, then re-test in about 10 minutes. If it still falls to zero in 10 minutes, add chlorine again and continue that 10 minute drill until the FC begins to hold to 5 ppm or more after 10 minutes.
