Allow me first to state that I know NOTHING about pools and I'm not getting a lot of support where I am located. Having said that, my question today centers around the skimmer. I have an inground pool, unconventionally 17' x 30' with a consistent depth of 4 feet. We bought the house in May and the pool was a literal bog with all kinds of wildlife living in it. We have drained the pool, had it cleaned, and a new liner installed. A new skimmer was needed as well, but here is where I am confused. The pool has two output ports and one intake. The skimmer appears to have two holes, both of which appear plugged. I do not understand how there is adequate dispensation of chlorine or any other granular or cake chemical if what is not cycling through the skimmer. Should one of these holes be opened at all times. Also, I have a Hayward SP1106A skim plate for vacuuming that sits on top of the basket. Is that plate supposed to stay there all the time or only when vacuuming. It actually seems to be impeding water flow to the basket. In any case, I am obviously totally confused on the circulation components of this swimming pool. I hope I have provided enough detail, but as a novice I may be omitting something so please advise accordingly. Thanking any and all in advance.- Tod

You should have a functioning skimmer.

Take pictures of the skimmer pot, the location of the returns and the "One intake"

Take picture of all the equipment on the pad from different angles so we can see all the piping and equipment.

Attached are the respective pictures requested. The picture for the inside of the skimmer has the yellow plug closest to the pool, however, it appears both are plugged off.

Also, is this threaded? And, is it an intake or a return. Take a picture of all three..the two returns, and the "intake?"

Is there any water moving through the skimmer?

What is the model number of the skimmer found on the backside of the lid? That's likely an sp-1085

Is there a weir door on the skimmer?

In the picture of thr skimmer bottom there's 2 plugs of which the darker older one is plugged from the underside from when the pool was built. The other plug may simply easily unscrew one the pump is shut off. The picture of the port in the wall, is that directly under the rectangular skimmer opening or else where and does it have suction...

The port on the wall is not under the skimmer. The port is on an adjoining wall and yes, it has significant suction.

It is threaded and it is the intake, as indicated in my original post. There are two returns on opposite walls. One pointing toward the surface and the other pointing downward. "Is there any water moving through the skimmer?" That is the essence of my post. If both of these holes in the skimmer are plugged, then how does anything move through the skimmer? As noted above, the lid indicates it is a Hayward SP1106A. There is not a weir door on the skimmer.

Your circulation is enough to distribute chemicals throughout the pool.

The hole further away from the skimmer mouth is the normal location for the line that gets connected to the pipe to the pump. As @wireform indicated it looks like they put a plug in the inlet, from outside the skimmer.

A new skimmer was needed as well, but here is where I am confused.

Was a new skimmer installed? That skimmer and lid looks old. If that is a new skimmer, they likely didn't install correctly.

Hayward SP1106A
This is the part number for the vacuum hose lid. What is the number on the underside of the SKIMMER lid?

Post that number, and order a weir door using that number for the skimmer.

The skimmer cover is the original cover. Apparently, the original skimmer itself was not the correct method of installation, as it was recessed. Although it looks rough, a concrete adhesive had to be used to modify the skimmer otherwise they anticipated that it would leak anywhere from 1/4" to 1/2" of water daily. Overall, it is not a very desirable position to be in. However, the modification is holding. I will follow your guidance on the rest. Thank you for your assistance.

I would contact the company and indicate that the plugs are still in there, there is no water flowing through the skimmer, and that you did not receive a weir door.
