When your cya, ch, or ta is way too high...

Depending on what your fill water tests out at, it is an option but if the fill water levels are worse than what is in the pool now, it's better to condition the water you have

BACKWASH—For cleaning filter. When filter pressure gaugerises 8-10 PSI (0.55-0.69 BAR) above start-up (cleanpressure):Stop the pump, set valve to BACKWASH. Start pump andbackwash until water in sight glass is clear. Approximately 2minutes or less depending on dirt accumulation.

You should be able to uncrew the sight glass and remove it

Not the sight glass, larger than that.
 
There's a filter basket underneath that cover. You may have some Gunk down and they're keeping the pump from running properly.

Deadline huh? Keep the FC cranked up to 16 until Friday or you see a vast Improvement prior to that. CC will play a major role in getting your pool clean. Once all the algae is killed off and filtered out, your pool will clear up. It just takes time and a lot of cleaning to get it to clear up

You've got the best in the business on the line currently! Keep those FC levels at shock level as much as possible. Brush once or more per day and you'll see improvement by Friday. Also, if your CYA is 70, shock level is 28ppm. Adjust your dosing accordingly. I believe you have been working off the assumption that your CYA level was 40 and shock level was 16ppm FC.

Maybe ask the wife to help. Explain the CYA test to her and have her give it a try, then average both of your numbers. The CYA test is the most subjective and therefore hardest test to get correct. Getting a second set of eyes on it might help and including her in the process might get her invested rather than just giving you orders on it. She'll enjoy the sparkling oasis too once you get it there!
