Just came back from vacation and found out my pump is not working. It won't turn on.

Checked if there is power to the pump and there is. No loose wires. Nothing to do with the manual timer/trippers.

Is there anything else to check to determine what's going on? Its not more than 6 years old.

Thank you.

You have the JEP-R Controller for the pump? Does anything show there? You confirmed that you have 240v between L1 and L2 at the pump?
Nothing shows at the controller. Basically a blank screen. Buttons don't turn on.

I checked the L1 and L2 and I don't have 240v there. Just 120v at each.

So I'm assuming I have a short somewhere.

Hey Jim,

Thank you so much for your time helping me.

In my pic the highlighted blue is going to the timer from the breaker. The purple is from the pump.

When I test the breaker black and red I get 240v. When I test the pump black and red I get next to nothing.
When I test the pump green ground to the red and black I get 120v each.

Does this narrow it down to the timer?

Bill

Edit. I did reset the breaker a few times. I forgot toe mentioned the breaker tripped while I was on vacation.

Bill,

On your timer you have two blue dots on pins 1 and 3. This is the input power to the timer and if you test between 1 and 3 you should get 240 volts.

The two pink dots on your timer are pins 2 and 4. This is the output of the timer. When the timer is on, you should get 240 volts between 2 and 4.

If you have 240 volts between 1 and 3 then you have good power into the timer.

If you have 240 volts between 2 and 4, then you have good power out of the timer. If you do not have 240 volts between 2 and 4, the timer is off, or your timer is bad.

Measuring to ground, when troubleshooting a 240-volt issue, will just get you confused with false readings.

Thanks,

Jim R.

You have bare wires at the back which is unsafe and needs wire nuts. You also have other wires on the load side of the timer, are they also not working?

I've noticed that too. It was like that from the original pool build. I will add it.
Those hook up to another timer for a pool vacuum pump and that's not working either.

It does have 240v going into the timer via pin 1 and 3. No power going out on pin 2 and 4.

Is there something I can troubleshoot for the timer or it's better to replace.

I'm not even sure why you need a timer as the tripper pins are missing. I assume the Jandy pump is running on a schedule from the JEP-R Controller?

I took off the tripper pins while troubleshooting. But you're right. I brought this up with the PB after everything was installed. They advised this is how it's done. So I left it. Never ran into trouble till now.

You could also replace the mechanical timer with the digital P1353ME and also run the booster pump from it.

FWIW, your booster pump should be wired to the pumps AUX relay so it only runs when the main pump is running.

Bill,

If the timer's manual switch is "on" then your timer is bad and just needs to be replaced.

Are you using the timer to control your VS pump?

What do you use the timer for??

Thanks,

Jim R.

The way I use the timer is to run the Jandy VSP and the SWG at the same time. It's set to run from 7 AM to 8 PM.

Its also connected to another timer for the pool vacuum, which I turn on manually at this point as needed.

I know the Jandy controller can run on a schedule too but I'm not sure how to run it together with the swg.

Basically we paid for the most economical setup when building the pool and the PB gave us this. I'm all ears if I can fix this in a smarter way now that I have to replace the timer.

Bill,

VS pumps are designed to get constant AC power, that said, using the timer to provide power to the VS pump and your SWCG at the same time will work just fine.

I suggest you get a new timer and do what you have been doing as long as it works well for you.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Take a look at the operation manual for the JEP-R Controller. It's only 8 pages and will give you an understanding of how the scheduling works when the pump is powered continuously. Then you can make a decision if you want to change the setup or not.

Thank you. I will read it.
