My dad is an electrician and is in the process of installing my equipment. My PB is no help at all. The question he has is this: does the the SWG have the built in ability to know when the pool pump is running ( ex. internal flow meter) or does it have to be wired in such a way as to not run when the pump is not running. The pump is a Jandy VS FloPro with JEP-R controller.

It needs to be wired such that the SWG loses power when the pump is off.

Some Jandy VS pumps contain an auxiliary load relay.

Does your installation manual say that the pump has the relay?

If yes, you can power the SWG from the pump power terminals with one leg going through the auxiliary load relay.

If no, you would have to use a separate timer for the SWG such that it would be scheduled to turn off when the pump was scheduled to turn off.

The auxiliary load relay closes when the pump is on and at a specified minimum rpm, which I think is 1,725 rpm.

In my opinion, the minimum speed should be lower than 1,725 as the SWG should be able to work down to about 1,200 rpm.

Requiring a minimum speed of 1,725 is going to require excessive amounts of power vs. being able to use a lower speed.

If you want to use a lower speed for normal operation, you should probably install a separate timer for the SWG instead of using the auxiliary load relay.
