Backwashed pump and recharged DE filter before starting SLAM today. Noticed that after 3x backwash and rinse, pump primed much better (see photo) than usual (usually water is just at top of filter basket).

this is a new Jandy pump and based on reading several threads here I thought the low water level was ok.Now I’m not so sure.

Thoughts? Thanks!

A pump should prime better after a filter cleaning. This reduces head loss on the return side of the plumbing which increases the flow rate and increase the rate at which air is purged from the pump basket.

What is the RPM when priming?

For the first prime after the pump lid has been removed, you want to use close to full speed.

Does the water level drop in the pump basket when the pump is off?

Hi @mas985! Yes. Water level drops when I take lid off and there’s a lot of gurgling.

Priming speed: 2850
Running at 2750 24 hrs during slam.

Would appreciate any suggestions about run time and speeds. Thank you!

That's not what I meant. If you turn off the pump but do not take off the lid, does the pump basket still drain over time?

Does all the air in the pump basket disappear if you prime at full speed (3450 RPM)?

Priming should really be done at nearly full speed (>3000 RPM).

What is the filter pressure when running at full speed?
