Jandy Cartridge Filters Blew-Out

These filters were only a year old, from Inyo (bought May 9 2018). They didn't look very dirty and had been cleaned at 6 months when they looked dirtier. Just sprayed them down with hose nothing rough or abrasive. Since then hairnets have been in both baskets always. I wasn't using them the first 6 months. Pool is open year round. Pump only runs for 3 hours/day.

Why did 3 of the 4 have blow-outs? The original filters before them lasted 2 years...and that's w/o any cleanings. Hey, I was a newb.

Is the pump going into the inlet or outlet?

It looks like the filter is plumbed backwards.

^ wow, you are correct. Water is entering the tub opening marked outlet. I can only guess the installer did this to allow the drain to point toward the grass.

Is it possible the innards were switched around to accommodate this?...the attached pic is where water is entering the filter...

The insides were not switched. Water should go from the outside of the cartridges to the inside. It's going from the inside to the outside, which is causing the cartridges to fail.

It happens. Sometimes the plumber isn't paying attention and makes a mistake. Here's another example:

Ugh, is it possible to reverse the inside plumbing or does the drain need to point in the opposite direction, too?

The Jandy manual has the unit trademarked as 'Versa-Plumb' but doesn't use the word reversible or even versa anywhere inside the manual.

I don't know for sure, but it looks like you should be able to reverse it from the inside.

If I had a big enough wrench the guts could have been reversed, I think. Since I didn't have the wrench the tub just got turned around with the drain pointing in the opposite direction. Not ideal but better than filters not working properly.

We've had close to 12 inches rain this week. Just need to get the water under control for now since new filters arrived today. I'll get a big Rear wrench and finish it up later. More rain in the forecast so nobody will be swimming this weekend.

The boil will go on as planned of course, rain or not!
