Jandy, AquaLink RS and Master Temp 400 - No lights no heat

Hello,
Had to tear apart and replace the bearings and seals on a WhisperFlo motor/pump. Motor and pump hum quietly and no leaks, but...

In the process, I accidentally severed the Pentair water temperature sensor wire going to the Aqualinks panel (not a lot of room back there and dropped the pump on it while trying to position it). When I push the button labeled "Heater", the red indicator light doesn't come nor does the Master Temp Unit. I also don't hear/feel the relay click. I tried to splice the two temp sensor conductor wires together and checked resistance and got OL. I assumed (I know, I know) that the sensor was bad and placed an Amazon order for a new one. Out of curiosity, I removed the sensor, snipped the wire before my splice job and checked resistance. Well, what do you know, right around 12K ohms which is about right for a room air temperature of 71 degrees. I guess my splice job was garbage. Unfortunately, the wire is now too short to wire back to the panel.

While I wait for the part, I have a question: Would that temperature sensor if bad/removed/screwed up by me, interrupt power to the heater indicator light on the Aqualinks panel? I understand that it won't send 24 volts to the heater to initiate it's start up sequence, but wouldn't the indicator light on the panel light up even if the heater doesn't come on? Or is that temperature sensor a safety that won't allow the associated relay to close?

My knees and back have had it for today, but tomorrow I'm going to try to jump the fireman switch to see if it'll come on manually. The new sensor will be here Saturday.

I found this thread helpful, but I think it's closed, so couldn't ask my rookie questions there...

With no water temperature the Aqualink will not turn on the heater or light the HEAT LED.

You can swap the air temperature in for the water temperature if you want to test the system.

AJ,
Thanks for the lighting fast reply. Just to clarify, HEAT LED meaning the one on the Aqualinks panel, not the Mastertemp Panel? If the former, it's comforting to know that that light would come on if the sensor was bad/missing from the circuit.

With respect to your recommendation to swap out the the air temp sensor, that's a great idea. However, I'm going to just wait on the part (since I need it now anyway). The air temp sensor is tucked in and hidden under the Aqualinks panel. All 20 feet of the wire is wrapped up, zip tied and hidden behind the other spaghetti bowl of wires inside the panel. I took one look and chickened out....

Again, appreciate the quick response and I'll try to post and update...

Yup.

James,
Donated a few dollars to TFP. I wish it were more to reflect the worth this forum and it's experts provide (which is substantial). But, trying to chip away at the many maintenance issues our home has left my coffers a bit light. Best and thank you.

Up and running. Got antsy so respliced the old temp sensor wire. This time I tested for resistance before hooking it back up. Panel, heater all fired up right away. Going to run it for awhile, but believe I'm good to go. Thanks!
