Jaffles pool build

Yeh if I build a second pool things will be different.
I certainly get the vibe from the contractors because I have tried to educate myself about pools, thay are happy to let me know all. If I don't ask they done't suggest.

When I was in the building game contractors would take it personally and a disliking to the customer, if the customer attempted to educate. Not all but most. I would tell my staff its not an ego thing, just the client is trying to do their best with what they have. Be helpful.

Ol mate plumber said he didn't like 45s as they look ugly. Could not care less about flow or resistance as it will work regardless. I said I can drive a car down the highway in 4th gear, but 5th is better. For a drive locally it doesn't matter, but crossing the county it adds up. Bit like running a pool for decade. He just looked at me. Maybe I am a FW lol.

Well the pool builder and his sausage factory are finally out of our lives, and we have a pool for summer (y).

I am moving the heater though as its too noisy. Works really well however the compressor makes an encroaching buzz instead of the fan hum I was told it had when pulling the trigger. Perhaps a good thing I invited on upsized plumping as it will now have 50ft extra to travel and gain 7ft in elevation.

I feel like writing a consumers guid of BS builders trap customers with. After signing it sure felt like I was the passenger on the builder's production line, and unless I kept paying the line stops. "Hey its your pool, your call". He knew ever play in the book and had a deflection or self servicing comment for everything. I discovered and proved his lies many times but rather than owning anything, I was the whinging bad guy who changed his mind. The most disappointing bit was his BS rolled out of his head and through his mouth like water off a dicks back. I am not to used to people like that. Well like to think I don't associate with people like that.

Anyway its great relief to be finished and the kids are stoked. We have had some hot days so the pool has kicked goals already. I've also been woken up to discover the kinds swimming in it at 11PM. I also has forgotten how nice an early morning dip or an evenings one is. Great to be able to afford a pool me thinks.

Love it and the whole are around it!!! LOL on the kids swimming at 11:00pm!
Ta kimkats, we still have a pool cover, a sun shade, and some seats of some sort to come. I have planted some plants to hang over the rocks a little to soften the feel, but overall it has come together.

To be honest I have tried to accomodate from the elderly as my mother live with us, from adults to kids, to toddlers and the dog.

Yesterday the jumping rock got a pizling with 6 teenagers all showing off their style. So the 6.5ft deep end is paying off. There are two deck gets either side that when turned up create a landing spot for jumping, or down low produce a relaxing water trickling sound.

My daughter practices her diving from the edge of the beach into the deep as she is not confident or coordinated enough to dive from the coping or the rock. Well not yet.....maybe never.

The wife and I have lazed around the beach for a chat, so to has the daughter and her mates or the son and his mates. The ledge off the beach is also a nice spot to sit chest deep in water to observe whatever is going on in the main part of the pool. The dog appreciates 6" of water and the big landing ramp, as she is only 12" tall, but also knows in the main conner towards the house there is another step for here to use. That is if she ever gets off here bogie board.

Grandma hasn't been for a dip so can't comment.

The pool is 29.5ft long which appears to be adequate for laps. I have not heard the 4ft shallow end is to deep or shallow from anyone. And when you dive in at the shallow end which is the natural end to arrive at from walking out of the house, the slope of the pools floor down to the deep seems to be at the right bevel so don't have to worry about hitting the bottom.

There is a plan for winter, to enjoy the night stars in a 95 F pool. I've built a sitting bench in the shallow end next to the main entry stair. Using the sun to power the inverter heater, I am hoping we can slide the pool cover back a few feet and slip into the warm waters. We get a great night sky here and with the clarity of winter with a little nip in the air it should be a pleasant experience.

To be honest some of this was design but just as much fluke, some of it was last second with the excavator being here. Overall I am pretty surprised how well it panned out.

Yeh I think so. Wish I found this site 12 months before we did anything though. And things differ a bit down under to the US also so it can be tricky working out industry standards between the two without getting people off side.
I was after a 10-12 pools a year PB, a sole operator so to speak. Was happy to pay but was after genuine input rather than what works best for the builder. In saying that I discovered the pebbler for the sausage factory also does the small builders work. Neither had much sway as the pebbler does 5 pools a day so you get what you get when it fits in. Lucky for all the pebbler is good at his job, communication is terrible but his crew know what they are doing.
I didn't really get my Lake McKenzie, but with my budget, my patience, and my knowledge I got something I am happy with. Nice to have a pool again also, I'm feeling very lucky in this funny ol world.

How is the water testing and care going?
ahhhh the inevitable question. Um.....I'm on the dark side my friend. I have an Astral Viron Equalibrium chlorinator. So an auto douser for PH and chlorine or ORP. I had one last pool and had no issue with it. Well until a sensor went wayward.

It been chewing trough the acid but I expected that with a new pebble pool. I bought a respected test kit here in Aus to monitor, but have been using a pool shop for a bit of security. That is fast running out though.

PH started at 9 and has come down to 7.6 over the past 4 weeks. I have PH set at 7.3. TA is a little on the low side around 100 so have been adding 1 to 1.5lt of extra acid a week to help raise. FC has been around 1, and I am still attempting to understand the FC relationship compared ORP. ORP is set at 710 with output resting at 680 or 690 most days. CC is 0 and Salt is at 4000, but that is where Astral want it.
My CYA is 15 also where Astral want it.

The water has always looked inviting from day one, and the pool shop snigger or look at me baffled when I tell what chlorinator I have. They ALLWAY spin out about CYA but I tell them more than 30ppm coats the sensors with gunk, then the pool goes wayward from bad readings.

I'm kicking myself I fell into the Phosphates trap down the shop the other day. Looking back the first salesman was focused on TA to achieve PH stability. Second one got the better of me after a bit of salesmanship and I could not remember, but after reuniting with TFP he won't be selling me phosphate remover again.

Think I will try TFP suggested test kit next time for why nots sake; and better send some money too as the site has been of great humour, information, and interest.

Good job! So long as you use it you are good! The test kits TFP loves do not ship to your side of the world so keep using yours and keeping up on the regents.

FC/CYA Levels Take note of this chart. I do worry your FC is a bit low BUT if the system you are using KEEPS it at 1 at all times you might be good. Just do NOT allow it to go to 0 or you may be learning how to SLAM your pool LOL

Listen. I've got NO clue how to manage with the supplies available locally to you. And when I try to read the labels, they're upside down. So if you have a system that is working for you, that's terrific. (y)

Just remember that the pool stores sole purpose is to sell you stuff. When you start asking them intelligent questions they dig DEEP where the sun doesn't shine for the answers. Said answers stink as one would imagine, from wherst it came.

Not everyone's liking but thought I'd share anyway. Apart from watching the moon or stars, I also don't mind listening to nature. We already have a lot of birds like Cockatoos (Sulphas and Yellow tails), Galahs, Corellas, King Parrots, Rainbow lorikeets, Bower birds, Magpies, Butcher birds, Currawongs, and a nesting pair of Pale Face Rosellas. Really nice to see 2 turn into 6 using a nest box I made.

I thought however I'd build myself a frog pond. Its 32' round and 6' dep or once was. I have 5 types of frogs, 2 or 3 types of dragon flies, water dragons (type of rough stalled lizard), Blue Tongue (smooth scaled lizard), probably a snake or two, and many types of butterflies. I once have a Koala in the surrounds but dogs (not mine), fences, lack of appropriate habitat didn't see it stay.

The frogs tend to call part of the day and most of the night. And really put on a show when it raines for day. My wife appreciates it but doesn't use it like me. Watching TV, having dinner, reading in bed, having a dip, or chatting with friends over for a BBQ; I have one ear on the company and one on the frogs. Just love them.

The pond is above the pool about 20' away, it also creates a privacy screen from the road. To date nature seems to understand the deal they have the pond, I have the pool.

Hey kimkats I started reading the deep end, but will have to do that few times to get my head around it. I found this instead which is far more at my end of the pool. The chlorinator is suggesting my ORP floats between 650 and 680 currently. As mentioned its set to reach 710 when TA settles. From my understanding that can take some time with a new pool.
