Who is the moron who decided to replace all the plumbing and do a better job this time, since she has to do something about her trashed sand filter anyway? Yeah, that would be me. Daughter is home this weekend so I finally have some help to get the filter situation dealt with.

Taking a cool down break - it is insane outside and the pool water is too hot even for me - about 96! I drained below skimmer and return so I could finally replace the glued together nightmare (read my build thread for that dramedy) which meant the sun didn’t have to work as hard on the remaining water. I swear, if it starts to boil, I’m throwing in some lobsters.

Well at least you are not down in south Florida where construction on the ark is almost complete. We have had 42” of rain in the last 14 weeks. Thats the only thing that is keeping the pool from boiling.

So, I’m glad I stopped last night to put water in to make sure new skimmer and return (sealed off with a ball valve union) were watertight before proceeding with the rest of plumbing. Cuz the skimmer wasn’t. It had a leak where the widemouth extension is connected to main body of skimmer. And how do you get to that area? Yep, you drain below and take whole thing off again. Sigh.

So, I drained this morning, went to lunch and Barbie the Movie this afternoon, then came home, took it off, disassembled, cleaned and pool lubed gaskets and screw slots, waited for storm to pass, then jumped (actually limped) back in and reinstalled. Closed valves again and started up the hose, while Flipper the robot mixes in some diluted chlorine. If she leaks when she fills, then she’s gonna be leaking for the rest of the week until I have time to deal with again.

This looks like fun!

You both should come to the middle of the state. We've had a cold front push in. It's 12.2 million degrees with only 99% humidity.

We’ve actually been vacationing in NJ/NY the past week. If I didn’t know better with this weather I’d think I was actually in Tampa.

It’s all relative, right? We like to expose the kids to different areas of the country.

That said, after a week of NYC, NJ beaches, and a drive through ridiculous traffic to a Long Island beach — I’m more than happy to be heading back to the “boring” Midwest.

And Kelly can keep Tampa, too — although due to family I do find myself down there as well more than I’d prefer. (Except, I will say, in Jan/Feb — when I don’t mind the escape!)

It‘s coming along slooooowly. I probably won’t be able to finish up until this coming weekend, when I have a helper again. We’ve had a few scary storms here in the evenings when I am done with work - typical Florida thunderstorms and I’m not doing anything outside then.

You can’t tell from this photo but these low level clouds were moving FAST and were actually touching the buildings - I was watching for circulation and thought sure that there would be a tornado. And then, I got to the bridge (from Clearwater to Tampa) and it was raining so hard you couldn’t see two cars length in front of you. We were all doing about 20 MPH.

Holy cow, we had a heck of a storm this afternoon. Power flickered three times, and I had to go dump about 4 or 5 inches of water out of the pool. I just basically opened up the ball valve underneath the skimmer and let it flow. It’s still at top of skimmer but I have to let the soil absorb before I drain any more.

Where was all this water when I had to refill after draining below skimmer??
