Issue with Pentair Easytouch and Spa

Hi,

I have Pentair Easytouch indoor remote and an outdoor panel. I tried to turn on the Spa via the indoor remote by pressing Spa button - the Spa did not turn on - but the light came on instead. Interesting the light button does not work either.

When I try and turn on the Spa at the outside panel (by pushing the V button to get to Spa and then push Filter Pump button) it does not work either. However the Spa does comes on during the scheduled cleaning cycle. Also when I run the self diagnostics on the indoor remote I get an error 4 when asked to push the Spa button.

I have never had any problems before. Is the remote broken - if so why can’t I turn on the Spa from the outside panel.

Any help greatly appreciate.

thanks

gavin

Gavin,

Using the outside panel, when you use the V button to switch between the Pool mode and the Spa mode, do you see the LCD switch From Pool to Spa?

I am not up on the operation of Pentair Remotes, as I have ScreenLogic, so let's see if Tom has any advice... Calling @ogdento

Do you have a Wireless Remote or wired remote? Do you have a wired Spa side remote??

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks Jim. Yes it goes from POOL to SPA and the Filter light comes on when I press the button but the pump does not start. The remote is wireless.

It sounds like you may have already found the problem, error code 4 on the remote's Spa button. If the remote's Spa button is stuck down, it could be confusing the EasyTouch.

Take the batteries out of the remote and see whether the ET comes to its senses at the outdoor panel.

Error 4 usually means there's a stuck button on the panel... disconnect the indoor remote and re-run the test... then re-connect it and re-run the test again

If the test passes with the indoor removed but then fails once you re-connect it, there could be an issue with the keypad.

Yes, we usually refer to the wired remote as an "indoor" remote and the wireless one as "wireless". In post #3, OP says the remote is wireless.

You are a genius or at least smarter than me - it worked. So I need a new indoor remote I guess - no way of fixing it? It looks very sealed up apart from the battery compartment

Yes that did the trick thanks. Those remotes are close to $300 - I wonder if it can be fixed?

There aren't any new keypads available for these (that I'm aware of anyway)... and you'd have to cut it open to replace it anyway. But before you start cutting, you could try giving all the buttons (maybe skip the menu button) a bit of a workout and see if that changes anything.

Not sure understand - I have to replace the wireless indoor remote - Pentair model 522465. Nothing on the panel I don’t think?

I was just responding to your question about whether the wireless remote can be fixed... the keypad is malfunctioning, and - assuming one of the buttons is stuck closed - sometimes if you press the "bad" button a few times it'll pop open again.

If you wanted to cut the remote open you could test all the buttons with a multimeter, but you'd have to glue it back together. Some folks here have cut theirs open, replaced switches, and glued them back together.
