I just happened to be by the pool this morning when the pump started up and there was a lot of air coming out of the returns as it started, kind of like if I had taken the filter apart for cleaning and then restarted everything. It lasted for about 30 seconds and I don't remember seeing this before. Do I have a problem?

There is a leak in your system that lets the water drain out of it with the pump off. Typically the likely culprit is an air relief valve on the filter or a pump basket gasket that seals with suction with pump running but bleeds air in with the pump off.
Thanks, I will check the valve on top of the filter although I have been opening and closing it on a regular basis due to pollen build up and have not had air come out before water. I will look at the pump basket tomorrow morning before it starts and see if it is full of air and I assume if it is not the the leak would be somewhere else.
