We are getting close to completing our inground pool with the builder. We should be spraying plaster in the next couple weeks.

Question: There is a threaded plug on the inside of the bottom drain. The builder says it’s a hydrostatic plug that can be removed if we ever drain the pool in the future.
i thought there was supposed to be a hydrostatic valve instead of a plug. I thought the valve popped open automatically when the ground water presssure got too high.

Is it ok to have a threaded plug vs a valve?

cc,

I think it depends on where you are... In the DFW area I'd bet that 90% of the pool only have a drain plug..

I have three pools in this area and none of them, two old ones and one new one, have the hydrostatic valve..

Thanks,

Jim R.

They did not hit water when digging.
there is ground water coming into the pool through the large holes they left in the gunite.
i think that is due to the record rain we had been getting. They say the plaster will cover the
holes they left in the gunite floor.

Do you have pictures of these holes or are you talking about the hydrostatic holes? If so then yes, the plasterers put in the plugs. Mine also has only the plugs. I had 0 water in my dug pool hole accept for rain. But I live on a hill there would need to be 30 feet of water for my elevation to be any issue at all.
