I am not an expert in electricity and never like mess around with it. I noticed this bonding/ground (I believe this is called "bonding" as oppose to ground) wire somehow broke apart. Is this safe the way I have it "connected". I had to wedge it into the gap, the screw is really not doing anything since the two ends are tightly "wedged" together.

The bonding wire should have good continuity throughout the entire loop. I think I would work on getting it tighter. Sand the corrosion off and fix the bonding lugs so you can tighten them.

My first thought would be to go ahead and pull that lug off the pump, and take it to the home center to see if you can find one with capacity for two wires that will fit in the same space.
Failing that would strip one or the other other of the ends a bit further back and use a split bolt connector to splice the other wire to the one that fits in the ground lug

Thanks. Can I solder the wires together?
No, connect bond wires together using copper split bolts.

Be sure the portion of the wire going into the ground is attached to the lug if possible, but not absolutely necessary.. Then, use one of the split-bolts shown by AJW22 to connect the other piece to an area that has been stripped of insulation.
