Is there any point to backwashing during a SLAM if my pressure hasn’t increased?

I’ve been slamming for almost 24 hours, and I was wondering if it would ever make sense to backwash and rinse during this process if my pressure increase has been negligible?

2nd, I know we are supposed to by pass the heater when slamming, but if I had algae in my pool then wouldn’t I also have algae in my heater and heater pipes? And wouldn’t I be re-introduced after opening the heater valves?

If the pressure hasn't increased by 25%, then there's no reason to backwash. Sand filters tend to do a little better when dirty anyways. But keep an eye on it. If you had noticeable algae and are killing it, the pressure should slowly rise. Make sure the gauge is working properly. Low to high speed should increase, and the needle should go to zero when off.

As for the heater, water can go through it during the SLAM Process as long as you don't go over your SLAM FC level for your current CYA - see FC/CYA Levels. More than anything. it's a low pH over time that will harm a heater, not the chlorine.
