Seems like whenever I take out my hot tub filter, some of the stuff that is caught in the filter comes loose and gets back into the water as I unscrew it. Is there a trick to this? It is disheartening watching all that 'stuff' go back into the water, there has to be a better way to remove these filters and keep all the stuff in the filter...without it breaking loose and getting back into the hot tub water...?

I use a fish tank net from WalMart. About $20 bucks less than a purpose made hot tub one.
I keep it next to the tub at all times. If leaves or bugs get in, they get scooped.

Depends on how serious you are about it. A simple hose siphon in the filter well might do the trick, or a shop vac.
My first thought is to clean it more frequently. If stuff is falling off it's long past due.
